A significant congress and exhibition environmental event in Russia, bringing together industry leaders, experts and business representatives.

In the context of modern challenges the Environmental Police in regions of Russia is increasingly acquiring its importance. The accumulated experience, practical and innovative solutions are becoming an important contribution in pursuing a sustainable development goals and improving an environmental situation at both the local and national levels, while the similarity of problems of Russian regions with those in foregn cities opens up the opportunities for international cooperation.

 

Emphasizing the role of St. Petersburg and Russian regions in addressing the environmental issues, the “Ecology of a Big City” Forum will be held under a new name in 2026 — the St. Petersburg International Environmental Forum “Ecology of a Big City”.

The forum will bring together more than 6,000 specialists from 75 regions of Russia and 10 countries.

The congress program includes over 60 events. Participants will discuss the environmental well-being of regions and cities, the closed-loop economy, environmental monitoring, water use and protection, development of nature reserves, eco-friendly transport, and much more.

The key event will be the plenary session “Advancement Strategy: Dialogue between Regions as a Driver of National Environmental Well-being” with the participation of heads of industry ministries and agencies, as well as leading experts in the field of ecology.

Other key events include the International Scientific and Practical Conference “The Universe of the Polar Bear,” the International Environmental Forum “Baltic Sea Day,” the Industrial Technology Forum “Regional Environmental Monitoring and Industrial Ecology,” the Forum of Regions, and others.

40 companies from 8 regions of Russia will present cutting-edge solutions for environmental protection, monitoring, and ensuring environmental safety, as well as achievements in natural resource management, Environmental protection. The exhibition area will be 5,000 square meters.

The Forum will be attended by representatives of regional government bodies, industrial enterprises, scientific and public organizations, developers of innovative environmental equipment and technologies, and managers and specialists from specially protected natural areas.

Visitor registration takes a couple of minutes and is free. Just fill in application form and an electronic ticket will be sent to your email. It provides access to the exhibition section of the Forum, as well as to open events of the Congress Program. You can present your ticket in either electronic or printed form.

The Business Contact Center (BCC) will be operating as part of the St. Petersburg International Environmental Forum “Big City Ecology”—an organized platform for direct interaction between suppliers and customers in the areas of ecology, green technologies, and comfortable urban environments.

The Business Contact Center will provide participants with the opportunity to hold individual one-on-one business negotiations, discuss specific tasks, and reach agreements. In addition to the talks program, supplier companies will be able to present their cutting-edge developments and technologies to a broad professional audience through keynote speeches at the Business Contact Center.

Key thematic areas include waste management and the circular economy, air and water protection, environmental monitoring and digital solutions, environmental technologies, environmental business education, and legal support for businesses.

Environmental departments of industrial enterprises, regional environmental authorities, construction and development companies, environmental equipment manufacturers, green technology developers, and consulting, engineering, and IT companies working in the environmental sector are invited to participate.

Following the 2025 “Big City Ecology” Forum, the Business Contact Center confirmed its high effectiveness. Over 1,000 individual negotiations were held during its operation. Participants represented St. Petersburg, Moscow, the Leningrad Region, Ulyanovsk, Perm, Yakutia, and other regions of Russia.

We invite you to take part in the Industrial Technology Forum “Regional Ecological Monitoring and Industrial Ecology”, which will be held on March 25, 2026 at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Center as part of the Big City Ecology Forum. The event will bring together leading experts, representatives of federal and regional government agencies, and key players in the environmental technology market.

 Event Objectives:

  • Discuss the implementation of modern standards and certification in the field of industrial ecology and monitoring.
  • Demonstrate practical solutions for the creation and operation of territorial environmental monitoring systems.
  • Consider innovative approaches to organizing local environmental monitoring at industrial facilities and monitoring the state of water resources.

The forum program will open with a panel session“Standardization and Certification in Industrial Ecology.” The moderator will be Yulia Filatkina, General Director of the ANO “Center for Environmental Reforms,” ​​Head of the Department of “Environmental Management and Sustainable Development” at the Academy of Standardization, Metrology and Certification of Rosstandart, Member of the Board of the Association of Environmental Management Systems (AREM), Deputy Chairman of the Project Technical Committee “Territorial Observation Systems” (PTC 716) of Rosstandart;

The practical part of the Forum is divided into three thematic blocks:

Practical session No. 1: “Territorial Environmental Monitoring Systems” is a session dedicated to regional experiences in creating air monitoring networks and implementing automated control systems.

Practical Session No. 2: “Industrial Ecology and Local Environmental Monitoring Systems for Industrial Facilities” — presentations on the best available technologies and case studies of monitoring systems implementation in production facilities. Representatives of the Scientific and Technical Center “Environment” of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “VNIIM” will share their experience. Mendeleyev, the Center for Environmental Monitoring of the Chelyabinsk Region, PJSC MTS, and IMC Group LLC.

Practical Session No. 3: “Eco-Monitoring of Surface Water, Industrial Discharges, and Effluents” — the final session will be devoted to modern methods of water quality analysis and monitoring of water user activities.

Participation in the forum will allow specialists not only to become familiar with cutting-edge developments but also to directly discuss professional challenges with colleagues and regulators, as well as establish partnerships for the implementation of environmental innovations.

On March 25, as part of the Big City Ecology Forum, a tour will be held of the Volkhonka Waste Management Plant, a modern, high-tech complex that processes 600,000 tons of waste annually.

 

Participants will be able to visit the closed production facility, equipped with 270 pieces of equipment, and see conveyor lines with a total length of almost 6 kilometers. The tour will demonstrate how tunnel composting technology works: in just 21 days, food waste is transformed into compostable soil.

 

The Volkhonka waste processing plant has become an important step in the development of waste recycling in St. Petersburg. Today, more than half of the incoming waste is recycled as secondary resources, RDF fuel, and compostable soil. This is the city’s first project on the path to achieving the 2030 goals of complete waste sorting and halving the volume of landfills.

On March 24, an expert session entitled “Eco-commandments for a modern city dweller: legislative stimulation of environmentally friendly behavior” will be held as part of the “Ecology of a Big City” Forum.

The event is being held at the initiative of Marina Shishkina, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, with the support of the Alliance for the Preservation of the Cultural and Natural Environment “Koryushka: High-Quality Public Solutions” and the St. Petersburg regional branch of the Russian Ecological Party “The Greens.”

Deputies will take part in the expert session. The State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, regional parliaments, representatives of relevant executive authorities of the regions of the Northwestern Federal District, members of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, and environmental activists.

This year’s Forum program promises to be particularly rich and will cover a wide range of significant topics and issues. The main focus will be on the topic of “Environmental Well-Being of Regions and Cities.”

The main event of the project will be the Plenary Session “Advancement Strategy: Regional Dialogue as a Driver of National Environmental Well-Being,” which will focus on the prospects and synergies of joint interregional environmental initiatives to achieve national environmental goals ahead of schedule.
